HYPERTENSIVE DISORDERS OF PREGNANCY

1. GESTATIONAL HYPERTENSION- Blood pressure rose to 140/90mmHg or greater for the first time during pregnancy but there is no proteinuria.Also called transient hypertension.
-happens when there is no preeclampsia and blood pressure normalizes 12 weeks postpartum
-10 % of eclamptic seizures develop before overt proteinuria

2.PREECLAMPSIA-a pregnancy-specific syndrome of reduced organ perfusion secondary to vasospasm and endothelial activation.Proteinuria is the important sign.Mild preeclampsia are those with diastolic Blood pressure less than 90mmHg,with proteinuria of trace to +1.Severe preeclampsia are those with diastolic Bp of 110 mmHg or more,with proteinuria of +2 or more, with symptoms of headache,visual disturbances,upper abdominal pain, oliguria,those w/signs of fetal retardation,elevated serum creatinine, thrombocytopenia,marked liver enzyme elevation, and present of pulmonary edema.

3.ECLAMPSIA-a severe form of preeclampsia.
the onset of convulsion in a woman w/ convulsion in a woman w/ preeclampsia that cannot be attributed to other causes

4.CHRONIC HYPERTENSIVE VASCULAR DISEASE-hypertension antecedent to pregnancy
or hypertension prior to 20 mweeks of pregnancy, unless there is gestational trophoblastic disease.Hypertension long after delivery
