A little of Philippine history

The Philippines is an archipelago w/ 7107 islands.The islands are grouped into three bigger islands the Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.The country is found in the South East Asia and is known as the Pearl of the Orient.There were three groups of people who were the first to settle in the country prior to the spanish regime.they were the curly haired black Aetas (kulot in the vernacular meaning curly hair) who said to come by land through land bridges.The next settlers were the brown skinned "unats" Indonese and the malays who came by boats. It was said that when the latter groups came, they forced the Aetas to the mountains.There were two seasons-the wet and dry.The wet rainy season comes from May to January and the dry summer comes february to April.Even in primieval periods, we have trades w/ China,Japan, and Indians.Paganism was the religion of our ancestors.They worship also the spirits and the trees.Gold was abundant.Rice is the known staple.Clothes were g-string for male, long skirt and blouse for women who could weave.A datu reigned a barangay which was the kingdom of each tribe.
We were colonized by Spain for 300 years.It was Spain who brought Christianity in our country.Roman Catholic is the majority of the people.A governor general lead the country.Governor General Augusto Claveria made a law that each person should have a Christian surname for tax collection purposes.Education was also brought w/ University of Sto Tomas as the oldest university of the country.
When the Filipinos finally want to be free from Spain,uprisings in different areas of the country happened.Katipunan was established by Andres Bonifacio.He was inspired by the novels of Dr Jose Rizal ,the Noli me Tangere and El Filibusterismo.Finally the Filipinos were helped by the Americans.A treaty of Paris was signed after long struggle between Spain and the United States thus we were free.Revolutionary government was established by President Emilio Aguinaldo.The Philippine flag was finally raised in Kawit ,Cavite on June 12, 1868.Then,Commonwealth government was established under the presidency of Manuel Quezon, however, this was interrupted by the Japanese invasion in 1940s.Puppet government was established w/ President Jose Laurel,w/ Quezon having refuge in Australia.He eventually died of tuberculosis in Malinta channel in the Corregidor Island.When Gen Douglas mcArthur came back to the Philippines , the Filipinos and Americans fought to finally seize the country from the Japanese.Sergio Osmena became president. Rehabilitation of the war-torn country was done.
